HOOVERSVILLE, May 2 - Milton George Metzger, 71, prominent farmer of Middle Taylor Township, Cambria County, was injured fatally at 5:40 o'clock yesterday afternoon when he was struck by an automobile on church street.
    Mr Metzger was crushed between the rear end of his own car, on which he was repairing a flat tire, and the front end of his automobile driven by Glenn Hunter, 25, of Friedens R. D. No. 2
    He was pronounced dead when examined at the scene of accident by Dr. J. M. James of Hooversville. His injuries consisted of a fracture of the skull, fractures of several ribs on the right side and a compound fracture of the right leg.
    Mr. Metzger and his wife had been in Hooversville yesterday afternoon visiting his sisters, Mrs. Annie Lohr and Mrs. Agnes Lyberger. The Metzger car was reported to have been three feet off the highway at the time of the fatality.

    Patrolman Ernest Hurb of the Somerset sub-station of the state Motor Patrol conducted an investigation and was told by eyewitnesses that the Hunter car was careening from one side of the road to the other for a distance of 75 feet before it struck Metzger, pinning him between the two vehicles.
    Hunter told Dr. W. J. Logue of Meyersdale, Somerset County coroner, he had experienced dizzy spells on Thursday and again just before the accident, and had lost control of the car. It was estimated the speed of the automobile was between 40 and 50 miles an hour at the time Metzger was struck. Hunter is employed in Johnstown and was en route to his home. He was released on his own recognizance last night, pending the outcome of an inquest which will be held Monday evening at the A. C. Berkebile mortuary here.     Milton George Metzger was born in Somerset County on June 1, 1865, one of five children of George and Elizabeth (Beachley) Metzger, both deceased. His brother and sisters are Mrs. Annie Lohr and Mrs. Agnes Lyberger of Hoversville, referred to above, and Edward Metzger of Fall City, Neb. One brother, John Metzger, preceded him to the grave a number of years ago.
    Milton Metzger removed to Middle Taylor Township approximately 40 years ago and since that tim4e had devoted his life to farming. In addition to his sistors and brother he leaves his widow, Elizabeth (Strayer) Metzger, a daughter of the late Mr. And Mrs. John Strayer, and nine children: Lester C. Metzger of Harold Avenue, intermarried with Josephine Coleman; Dora, wife of Charles Carney of Middle Taylor Township; Galen Metzger, at home, intermarried with Hazel Bassett; Zella, wife of Curtis Link of Violet Street; Ivy, wife of Theodore Hunt of Jackenson Township; Theodore Metzger of 1340 Franklin Street, well-known Eighth ward garage man, intermarried with Gertrude Blue; Elton Metzger of Middle Taylor Township, intermarried with Ethel Rolland; Margaret, wife of Albert Bassett of Middle Taylor Township, and Elizabeth, wife of J. Duane Baker of McKeesport. 
    One Son, Winfred, died in infancy. Also surviving are 22 grandchildren and half-brother, William Smucker of Miami, Okla. Morticians Berkebile & Son of Hooversville prepared the body burial and this afternoon will remove it to the Metzger home.
    Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 o'clock Monday afternoon at the Pleasant Hill Church of the Brethren in Middle Taylor Township, Cambria County.. Rev Grant Weaver will officiate and will be assisted by Rev. Galen Royer, pastor of the Morreville Church of the Brethren, and Rev I. R. Pletcher of Florda, who is visiting in Johnstown. Interment will be in Grandview Cementary, Johnstown.
